As noted in fellow inductee Larry Sidney’s bio, Sidney is hailed by former men’s basketball coach, and RVC Athletics Hall of Fame member, Chuck Behrends as being one of the two best basketball players he ever coached in his 20 years at RVC. Roosevelt Watkins is the other player in that illustrious top two.

Roosevelt played for RVC for two seasons from 1974-1976 and set numerous program records that still stood when Coach Behrends retired in 1985. Those records included: most points in one game (41), most total rebounds in a game (31), most offensive rebounds in a game (16), most defensive rebounds in a game (20), highest season scoring average (23.0), most field goals made (285), highest season rebounding average (15.2), most offensive rebounds (181), most career points (1,231), highest career scoring average (21.6), most career field goals made (546), most career rebounds (837), most career offensive rebounds (314), most career defensive rebounds (523), and highest career rebound average (14.7).

Awards and recognitions Roosevelt collected in his two years included second team All-Region (1974-75), first team All-Conference (1974-75 & 1975-76), N4C (North Central Community College Conference) Most Valuable Player (1974-75 & 1975-76), and first team All-Region (1975-76).

After graduating from RVC, Roosevelt played two years of basketball for Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska, where he was named his team’s Most Valuable Player both seasons.
