Rock Valley College’s Hall of Fame men’s basketball coach, Chuck Behrends (2013 inductee), proudly nominated Ron Alden for this year’s induction class and calls him one of the finest young men he ever had the opportunity to coach in his 20 years at RVC.

“Ron had a great work ethic and was a quiet team leader,” says Coach Behrends.

As a sophomore in the 1979-1980 season, Ron was selected for the Region IV first team, joining fellow RVC Athletics Hall of Fame members Larry Sidney and Roosevelt Watkins as the only three RVC men’s basketball players at the time to achieve that honor. At that time, Region IV was comprised of all junior college teams in the state. That season Ron led the N4C in scoring with 665 points (21.8 ppg) and was a unanimous All-Conference first team selection. He finished his career with over 1,000 points and over 300 rebounds, joining Sidney and Watkins as the only three players to reach those career marks at the time.

After leaving RVC, Ron went on to excel on the court for Rockford College, where he eclipsed 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in two seasons. He graduated from Rockford College with a B.S. in Accounting in 1982 and passed the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam in 1983.

Ron worked for McGladrey LLP for 27 years where he reached the position of partner. He is currently the Construction Controller for William Charles Construction. In the community, Ron served as a board member and Treasurer for Spectrum School for four years and has served on the board for Milestone, Inc. for over 25 years.

Ron and his wife of 36 years, Lynda, are the proud parents of daughters Erin and Ashley, both of whom live in Rockford.

On his induction into the RVC Athletics Hall of Fame, Ron stated, “I am very honored and humbled to be inducted into the RVC Hall of Fame. I owe a lot of my success at RVC to being coached by an outstanding coach and individual like Coach Behrends. I truly enjoyed my time at RVC and have nothing but great memories from my time there.”
