Men's Basketball Coach (1966-1985)

Charles Behrends joined the College as a teacher of Physical Education and basketball coach in September of 1966.  He served as the head men's basketball coach for seventeen years, compiling an overall mark of 300-221.  Twice he was named the N4C Coach of the year in 1971-1972 and 1974-75.  In 1988 Chuck was honored by being inducted into the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame.   

Chuck also served the College as Division Chairman for more than 20 years and as Director of Men's Athletics from 1971 to 1978.  A mentor to many student-athletes, Chuck saw 57 of his former players go on to receive degrees from four-year institutions.  

Chuck was a well-decorated athlete prior to his time at Rock Valley College.  After a standout career in basketball, baseball and tennis at Western Illinois University, he spent three seasons as a minor league baseball player in the St. Louis Cardinals organization.  Charles was inducted into the Western Illinois University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1983.
