The Rock Valley College Women's Soccer team earned another statement win on the road Wednesday, defeating No. 5-ranked Joliet Junior College in a pivotal Region IV matchup. With the victory, the Golden Eagles improved to 13–1 overall and 8–1 in Region IV play.
Rock Valley struck quickly, finding the back of the net just two minutes into the match when Kassandra Jiminez slipped a perfectly timed pass through to Izze Fritz, who calmly finished a 1v1 opportunity to put RVC in front.
The Golden Eagles doubled their lead before halftime when Alanah Reyes connected with Crystal Garcia, who beat her defender inside and curled a shot into the far post for a 2–0 advantage.
Joliet pushed for a response in the second half, but RVC's defense held firm. The hosts were denied by several strong saves from the Rock Valley goalkeeper before Fritz linked up with midfielder Joscelyn Posada, who found the top corner to seal the 3–0 victory.
Head Coach Kevan Watkins praised his team's composure and execution in the top-five match up:
"We knew this would be a challenging game coming into the final stretch of our season," said Watkins. "The girls came out focused, executed the game plan, and showed real maturity on the road. Earning a clean sheet against a nationally ranked opponent and keeping a clean sheet says a lot about this group."
The Golden Eagles continue Region IV play this Saturday as they travel to Kankakee Community College for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
