Women's Basketball: Golden Eagles Win Region 4 and Midwest District B Title

For the first time in program history, the Rock Valley College Women's Basketball has captured the NJCAA DII Region 4 and Midwest District B Championship. The Golden Eagles, the #3 ranked team in NJCAA DII Women's Basketball, were in a back and forth battle with the #6 seed Oakton Community College for the entire game.

The Owls would jump out to an early 13-9 lead over the Golden Eagles, before RVC would go on a run to tie the game at 24 before Oakton's Ellie Reynolds would get a last second foul and lay-up to end the first 27-24. The second quarter would be more Oakton making a to extend their lead to 10 points with 4:28 left in the half. After a time out by RVC the Golden Eagles would finish the half on a 5-0 run of their own to cut into the lead.
"We knew we were going to be in for a dog fight. Night in and Night out we are going to get everyone's best. It's playoff basketball and no one wants to go home. " stated Head Women's Basketball Coach Darryl Watkins.
In the second half the Golden Eagles would go on a 16-6 run to claim a 7 point lead before finishing the 3rd quarter with a 64-59 lead. The 3rd quarter run would prove to be the difference maker in the game as Rock Valley would never trail in the game again.
"We kept out composure and didn't panic. They didn't let the 10 point lead Oakton built rattle them or throw them off of their game. They weathered the storm and we made a run of our own to finish out the game and punch our ticket." Stated Watkins

The Golden Eagles were lead by freshman Mia Moore's 24 points on 10-13 shooting. Also hitting double figures were sophomores Jasmyn Hale with 14 points, 9 rebounds, Alicia Bates 13 points, 3 steals and Carly LaMay 10 points 2 assist, 2 blocks.
