Women's Basketball: Pair of Wins Propels Golden Eagles into Top 10

Marshalltown, IA: The Golden Eagles are off to a great start this season with a 6-0 start, winning six straight games with its last win coming this past weekend to Iowa Community College members Iowa Lakes and Marshalltown Community College. This strong start has propelled the Golden Eagles into the top 10 NJCAA DII women's basketball national poll at the #7 spot.

In day one of the Marshalltown Classic Rock Valley would take on Iowa Lakes. The Golden Eagles would take an early lead in the 1st quarter before eventually trailing to the Lakers in the second quarter. The Golden Eagles would eventually build a 10 point halftime lead before going on to win the game by 55 points, 109-54. Rock Valley put six people in double figures on the night.
Day two would see RVC face off against the host school the Marshalltown Tigers. Marshalltown was coming off of a win the night before against Lewis and Clark. The Golden Eagles would battle some adversity early in the game with early foul trouble, but would still control the game putting together a couple of great defensive quarters in the game. "Our group of ladies are locked in on the defensive side of the court right now understanding that we are explosive on the offensive end of the court but to truly be elite they have to get it done on the defensive end as well." Stated Head Coach Darryl Watkins

Leaders from the game were sophomore Maya Mitchell with 18 points and 6 rebounds, freshman Mia Moore with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore Alicia Bates with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

UP NEXT
RVC will be on the road to take on NJCAA DI Sauk Valley on Tuesday November 21st and also traveling to Moberly, MO to take on region 24 opponents Spoon River and Danville Community College.
