Rock Valley College Women Draw 2-2 Away at College of Lake County

(October 7, 2023) Rockford, IL - Rock Valley Women drew 2-2 on Saturday to a hard working College of Lake County team. The Golden Eagles controlled large parts of the game but were unable to put the winning goal past Lancer goalkeeper Sarah Bahena (18 saves). Rock Valley opened the scoring off a Emma Ambrose free kick and slotted home for Ella Steckbeck's 14th goal of the season. The second goal was a fantastic counter attack started by a pass from Sara Holguin into winger Jocelyn Harms deep in the RVC half. Harms beat her defender and was able to find the feet of Anika Elgin who drove at the back line giving time for Jocelyn Harms to get into the attack before playing her in for her 22nd goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles were able to get 20 shots off and 13 in the second half on a hard working and organized Lancer team. "I will give credit to CLC taking the couple good chances they created, especially the first one right after our second goal. I think if that does not go in we are probably looking at a completely different game. I am proud of the urgency and commitment we showed to get forward and change the game in the second half. Some games every chance goes in and on other days you can create some great opportunities but just fall short. The Lancer goalkeeper came up big with a save up to her right off a well placed header and two point blank saves in the game. I think these types of games sometimes feel like a loss but are needed to build character and force us to find a way to push ourselves in key moments." Head coach Kevan Watkins stated.

RVC will travel to Region IV opponents College of Dupage @ 4:30 PM on Wednesday October, 11th.
