ROCKFORD, Ill. –
The Golden Eagles put together a well-rounded 90 minutes on Saturday afternoon against College of Lake County in their Region IV debut, to claim a more than deserved three points.
Â
A quick start to the match saw Rock Valley quickly earn two corners, leading to a stunning strike from
Julio Davila in the fifth minute of the match. The early pressure from the Golden Eagles frustrated Lake County often throughout the match.
Â
The chances continued regularly for Rock Valley throughout the first half. A foul inside the box led to
Roberto Davila's penalty conversion in the 18
th minute to give the hosts a 2-0 commanding lead.
Â
As the Golden Eagles continued to cause problems for the visitor's defense, Rock Valley failed to convert any of their nine shots to close out the first half, missing just wide on two occasions and requiring fingertip saves from the Lancer goalkeeper.

HALF TIME: Rock Valley 2-0 Lake County
Â
The second half would open with much of the same as the first, plenty of possession and chances by Rock Valley's attack. It took the men nine minutes to build further on their well earned first 45 minutes as
Isaac Love recorded his first goal of the season in the 54
th.
Â
After the goal, Rock Valley looked the most vulnerable as they would all match, allowing six second half shots, three of which were on frame.
Alyas Fritz made three saves in goal and was firm in commanding the defensive third for the Golden Eagles. The lone significant threat came midway through the second half as the home side conceded a dangerous free kick and subsequent corner just moments later.
Â
The Golden Eagles buttoned up their streaky play in the second half with 70% possession in the final fifteen minutes of play, generating four shots, two on frame and nearly expanded on their three-goal lead with clever shots by
Max Rebori and
Brady Williams.
Â
"Despite still leaving more empty chances throughout, I thought the guys played well today," said head coach
Tim Romanello. "We keep adding minutes to our total game, so I like how this group continues to move the bar forward."
Â
"A bit of work still to do and there are certainly different levels to our tactics to be added," added Romanello. "Overall, we can smile about today's performance and main objective: three points."
