th in the latest NJCAA women's basketball DII poll.
On Thursday the Golden Eagles would travel to Cicero to battle against #2 Morton College. RVC would hold an early lead in the first quarter before the Panthers would find their groove. "We jumped out early defending the 3pt line taking away the looks that Morton wanted, but with really good 3pt shooting teams you have to do this possession after possession and not give up 2
nd and 3
rd chance opportunities." Stated Watkins
The Golden Eagles would go on to play the Panthers in a dead lock game for every quarter except for the 2
nd when Morton put on a barrage of 3pt shots. Morton would go on a 27-11 run to finish off the second quarter and give them a 10 point halftime lead. "Offensive rebounds and 2
nd and 3
rd chance points came back to get us in that game. We couldn't finish the possessions off and Morton capitalized on every second chance opportunity." State Watkins
Camron Blank would lead the Golden Eagles with 21 points, 7 rebounds. Also hitting double figures against Morton would be
Maya Mitchell with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assist, 3 steals.
Rock Valley would finish the weekend defeating #11 and previously unbeaten Parkland College. The Golden Eagles dominate the Cobras the entire game eventually leading to a 65-51 victory on the road. "It's really exciting to finally kick the door in against a nationally ranked opponent this season. We have been in tight games against #1 Kirkwood and #2 Morton but could finish the job and get over the hump. Saturday our kids found a way to get the job done." Stated Watkins
