Rockford, IL: The Golden Eagles picked up two wins last week in three games over division II opponents Elgin Community College and Spoon River College. Rock Valley would drop one game to current #10 NJCAA DI Moberly Area Community College who is currently 9-0 on the season. With that loss the Golden Eagles would drop in this weeks National Poll to the #17 spot.
On Tuesday the Golden Eagles would dismantle Elgin by a score of 102-62 after only leading by nine points at halftime. Rock Valley would go on to outscore the Spartans 57-26 in the second half. "We got off to a slow start didn't put together the stops on the defensive end of the court and it showed in the score. Once our ladies woke up and played our brand of basketball it showed and we controlled the rest of the game." Stated Watkins
Leaders from the game were Camron Blank with 28 points 5 steals and 3 assists, Maya Mitchell 12 points, 3 assists, McKenna Williams 12 points, 12 rebounds, Nevaeh Hughes 11 points, 9 rebounds, Karley Colson 10 points, 6 rebounds, Bre'Najah Davis 10 points. Nearly missing a triple double was freshman Carly Lamay with 8 points, 7 assist, and 6 rebounds.
Post-thanksgiving would see the Golden Eagles hit the road to compete in the Moberly Classic. On night one RVC would have a true road test against #10 NJCAA DI Moberly Area Community College. The Golden Eagles would fall behind early after a quick Greyhound 9-0 run to start the game before putting together a 10-3 run of their own but that would quickly be erased as Moberly would end the quarter on 8-0 run to take a 20-10 lead. "Moberly is long, athletic and aggressive and they use their length on the defensive side of the court really well. Credit to them because they forced us to be un-characteristic in this game, taking tough contested shots and never really giving us a true wide open look at the basket. It's a reason why they are a top 10 team in the NJCAA DI poll." Stated
Darryl Watkins
Rock Valley would finish the weekend on a high note defeating Spoon River in overtime. The Golden Eagles would jump out to 19-11 1
st quarter lead. Spoon would battle throughout the game eventually taking the lead in the fourth quarter before RVC would eventually tie the game to send it into overtime.
In overtime the Golden Eagles would outscore the Snappers 12-2 kick started by two big 3 point shots by Karley Colson to gain the lead and never look back. Leaders from the game were Colson with 16 points, Nevaeh Hughes with 10 points, 7 rebounds. Barely missing double figures and a double double was Bre'Najah Davis with 9 points, 10 rebounds. This win would give Rock Valley its first win in five trips to Moberly, MO.
