Rockford, IL- #3 RVC Women's Basketball comes away with its ninth straight win Saturday afternoon 71-64 over NJCAA DII Triton College. The Golden Eagles improve to 19-6 overall and (9-0) in N4C.
The Golden Eagles started the game off blazing hot from the 3 point line in the 1
st quarter building an early 14 point lead. "We give them the green light especially when it is a good shot we want the ladies to step in with confidence and knock it down, all one motion and no hesitation." Stated
Darryl Watkins.
The second quarter the Golden Eagles would see their lead be erased by the Trojans who would go on an 18-0 run before RVC would score a bucket. "We had struggled big time in the second quarter, kind of stopped falling credit to the defense of Triton, and then on the opposite end they got it going and they were hitting some tough shots." Stated Watkins Before the half was over Triton put together a 22-4 run to take a 4 point lead into the half.
Â
The second half would see the Golden Eagles get back on the right track starting off the 3
rd quarter on a 18-1 run of their own taking back the lead and not looking back afterwards. "We weathered the storm of the 1
st half run Triton had went on early. Our girls stayed out of foul trouble in the second half and finished out a hard fought battle to take a commanding two game lead in the N4C title race." Stated Watkins
The Golden Eagles saw three players score in double figures. The Golden Eagles were led by freshman's
Hannah Malcomson (11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assist),Â
