Madison, WI- #4 RVC Women's Basketball comes out on top on Saturday afternoon 79-74 over Madison College. The Golden Eagles improve to 12-6 overall and (2-0) in N4C play.
The Golden Eagles came out flat, against the Wolfpack on Saturday shooting just 31% from the field in the first half and 18% from 3pt. The Golden Eagles a team who averages close to 85 points a game and close to 25 points a quarter had only scored 27 points in the entire first half. "We couldn't buy a basket in the first half. We were getting the looks we wanted it was just tough shots were going in and out of the rim, and some credit is deserved to Madison on the defensive end making things that way for us." Stated Watkins.
The second half saw Madison build their lead up to 15 points before Watkins would burn a timeout. "They made a great run out of halftime in which we couldn't let it get to out of hand. In that time out we reassured to the girls that this is where it comes down to heart and confidence, and that they need to FIND A WAY to get a stop, FIND A WAY to win the 50/50 plays and FIND A WAY to see the ball go in the bucket that things will start to turn in your favor." said Head Women's Basketball CoachÂ
Darryl Watkins. And the flow of the game did just that. The Golden Eagles would rally put together multiple stops on the defensive end of the floor capitalized by a huge charge taken by
Alexcia Neal on the Wolfpacks point guard Mrylena Stewart to pick up her 4
th foul with one minute left in the 3
rd quarter. RVC would go on a 9-0 run to end the 3
rd cutting the lead down to 6 heading into the 4
th.
"Momentum had switched and things were finally starting to click for us. We were attacking the rim drawing fouls getting to the free throw line and getting easy transition buckets." Said Watkins "When we are defending well, finishing plays by rebounding the ball and then pushing the ball through transition quickly and making the extra pass we are a totally different team." Stated Watkins. RVC would gain the lead early in the 4
th quarter and would never look back. The Golden Eagles finished the game on a 15-6 run to finish the come from behind victory.
"We have been in quite a few of these close game situations down the stretch of games and to see this group come together and find a way to pull this one out especially on the road is a huge accomplishment." Stated Watkins "We have to take this momentum and continue to get better as we continue to move forward in conference play."

Maria Hilby (14 points, 8 rebounds) and sophomoresÂ
Carson Nitz (10 points, 8 rebounds)
Samantha Harris (13 points, 11 rebounds).
