Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#6 Golden Eagles Fly Away from Chiefs

The RVC Women's Basketball started off hot and never looked back against Waubonsee Community College - 98-55. The Golden Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season.

"We started the game off hot from behind the 3pt line, Kershner (3-5), Malcomson (1-3), and Harris (1-2) all got it going early." stated Head Women's Basketball Coach Darryl Watkins. Waubonsee came out early and sat back in a zone on us and allowed our shooters to get hot especially Kersh."  The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 25-2 lead in the first quarter against the Chiefs. I felt like it was good for Marissa to see it go in the basket early today, she's been in kind of a slump from 3 the last couple games and when she finally saw that first one go in you can tell it was a weight off of her shoulders."

The Chiefs would battle back before the end of the 1st quarter and midway through the 2nd quarter before the Golden Eagles would finish the half on a 10-2 run to go up 52-30. The second half would be no different story as the Golden Eagles would continue to build their largest lead of the game by forcing 13 turnovers for the half and 35 for the game. "Our defensive effort was great tonight. We got out pressured the basketball and forced a lot of turnovers which led to a lot of points for us. We were also able to win the rebounding battle tonight 67-55 and creat 30 points off second chance opportunities."

RVC saw four players record double digit scoring lead by freshman guard Hannah Malcomson led the way for the Golden Eagles nearly missing a triple double with a game high of 23 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals. Carson Nitz filled the stat sheet as well with 20 points 6 rebounds and 6 assist. Samantha Harris also had a huge game for RVC with a double-double of her own 17 points and 12 rebounds and Marissa Kershner rounded out double digit scoring with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Alexcia Neal was huge off the bench for the Golden Eagles coming in with solid play nearly missing a triple-double recording 6 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assist her-self. "This team continues to grow and get better every single day."
