M-Basketball: Balanced Scoring Guides Golden Eagles Past Illinois Central College
Box Score 5 players scored in double figures Wednesday night to propel RVC Men's Basketball to a 85-65 win over NJCAA DII Illinois Central College. The Golden Eagles improve to 9-1 on the season.
"I am happy with how we competed," said Head Men's Basketball Coach
Evan Lavery. "There were times where we made mistakes, but our grit made up for it. We have made improvements throughout November, but I still think there is more room for growth individually and as a group for this team."
The Golden Eagles held a 10-point advantage into halftime thanks to a strong final 4 minutes of the first half. RVC blew the game open in the first 5 minutes of the second half thanks to a trio of triples from Chicago native Darius Branch. The Golden Eagles led by as much as 28 points (83-55). RVC was fueled by 21 offensive rebounds, shooting 72.7% (16-22) from the free throw line, and forcing 16 Illinois Central turnovers.
Branch and
Elijah Pappas (Rockford, IL) both scored 18 points.
DeAnte Barnes (Belvidere, IL) finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
DeMari Davis (Indianapolis, IN) added a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while
Malique Ross (Montgomery, IL) just missed a double-double with 11 points and 9 assists.
