Box Score Rock Valley College Men's Basketball defeated NJCAA DII Kishwaukee College 78-62 to open the 2017-18 season. Four Golden Eagles scored in double figures to lead the way to a 1-0 start.

"Sometimes the toughest game to win can be the first one," stated Head Men's Basketball Coach Evan Lavery. "We could not guard a wet paper bag in the first half. Kishwaukee executed, we failed to follow the scouting report, and they made us pay. We made adjustments in the second half, and buckled down defensively, which allowed us to attack a bit in transition. We have a ways to go, but it is a quality start."

The Golden Eagles led 37-34 at halftime, despite sophomore big man DeMari Davis (Indianapolis, IN) sitting a majority of the half due to foul trouble. RVC started the second half on a 17-4 run, which forced the visiting Kougars to play catch up the rest of the afternoon. The Golden Eagles shot 26-55 (47.3%) from the field, 11-24 (45.8%) from behind the arc, and 15-21 (71.4%) from the free throw line.

"Anytime you can shoot those kind of percentages, you put yourself in a situation to be successful," said Lavery.

Malique Ross (Montgomery, IL) led all scores with 27 points, included 5 made three-point field goals. Darius Branch (Chicago, IL) contributed 14 points in his Golden Eagle debut. Davis added 11 points and 7 rebounds, while Elijah Pappas (Rockford, IL) added 10. DeAnte Barnes led the team in rebounds (9) to go along with his 8 points.
