W-Basketball: #2 RVC Defeats #3 Madison in Battle of N4C Unbeatens
Box Score In a match-up between nationally ranked NJCAA DIII programs, #2 RVC Women's Basketball faced a task they have not seen since December 19th, 2016: a halftime deficit. The Golden Eagles rallied in the second half, defeated #3 Madison College 63-57 in "The Nest" Wednesday night. The win moves RVC to 20-3 overall, and 7-0 in N4C play.
Once again, the story was the half court defense of Rock Valley. Despite 31.1% from the field, the Golden Eagles managed to hold the visiting WolfPack to 22-58 (37.9%) from the field, and an ice cold 0-9 from three-point range. The Golden Eagles also managed to haul in 24 offensive rebounds in the game.
"It still was not our best, but a win in this big of a game is outstanding," stated Head Women's Basketball Coach
Misty Opat. "We could be a lot better offensively in terms of finishing around the basket and taking care of the ball, but we are getting close. We are playing a nice brand of basketball as we enter the second round of N4C play on Saturday."
The Golden Eagles were led by
Tierra McGowan's 15 points, 17 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Anastasia Karaivanova contributed her best game in a Golden Eagle uniform with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore
Jaycee Cleaver added 12 points.
