Rock Valley Splits at Thanksgiving Classic
Rock Valley hosted its annual Thanksgiving Classic last Friday and Saturday bringing in #11 NJCAA DII Southwestern Community College (Creston IA), NJCAA DI Kankakee Community College (Kankakee, IL), and #19 NJCAA DII Macomb Community College (Warren, MI)... Friday, the Golden Eagles got out to a quick lead and never looked back defeating Kankakee 82-65... RVC was led by the hot hand of sophomore Dalton Menke (Winnebago, IL), who scorched the nets for 24 points, all coming from behind the arc, shooting 8-14 from 3 PT land... Freshman Malique Ross (Oswego, IL) finished just shy of a triple-double recording 8 points, 9 assists, and a career-high 9 rebounds... The second game of last weekend's back-to-back found the Golden Eagles down 42-24 at half to #19 NJCAA DII Macomb Community College... The Golden Eagles played the second half even with the Monarchs, getting handed their second loss of the season 82-65... The Golden Eagles struggled to take care of the ball with 17 turnovers, and missed 11 opportunities at the free throw line... RVC was led by Guilford High School alum Elijah Pappas, who finished with 16 points... Rock Valley also got help from sophomore Alec Pena (Rockton, IL) who finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Rock Valley is an NJCAA Division III member of the North Central Community College Conference (N4C)… RVC Men's Basketball entered the 2016-2017 season ranked #1 in the NJCAA DIII Preseason Poll… Rock Valley, with a record of 6-2, will be traveling to Malta, IL for a game against Kishwaukee College... This will be Rock Valley's first match up with Kishwaukee since the 2014-2015 season where they suffered an 89-63 loss at home... RVC looks to get back on track with a win before hosting their December Classic which includes a group of NJCAA DII schools: Ancilla College (Donaldson, IN), Little Priest Tribal College (Winnebago, NE), and Bryant & Stratton College (Wauwatosa, WI)... The Golden Eagles will play Ancilla College Friday at 7:00 PM and Little Priest Tribal College Saturday at 3:00 PM.

Kishwaukee College is an NJCAA DII member located in Malta, IL... The Kougars are led by Rockford native Rob Buss... Coach Buss is in his 14th season as the head coach of Kishwaukee College and currently has a career record of 233-193... Buss, who attended Rock Valley College and was a member of the Men's Basketball team, coached RVC Head Coach Evan Lavery in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons at Kishwaukee... The 2009-10 Kougars advanced to the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Danville, IL and placed sixth... The Kougars are on a 4-game win streak and currently hold a record of 6-2... Both Kougar losses have come by no more than 7 points... Kishwaukee is led by sophomores Malcolm Reed (Michigan City, IN) averaging 20.6 ppg and 6.4 rpg, and Bryson Butler (Chicago, IL) averaging 16.1 ppg, 7.7 apg & 7.1 rpg.
