Tim Hatten

Coach Hatten is entering his 20th year at Rock Valley College and is currently a tenured professor in the Department of Fitness, Wellness, and Sport.  Hatten is also the Owner of Hatteco Sport and Performance Analysis, which focuses on baseball and softball skill instruction, performance evaluation, and sport specific conditioning.

He graduated with a Ph.D. in Exercise Science from the University of Mississippi, Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology from Mississippi State University and Bachelor degrees in Biology and Sport Management from Quincy University. Hatten is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  Hatten is also certified as an ASEP/NFHS Certified Coaching Education Instructor and as a Level 4 ACE Softball Coach through the Amateur Softball Association (ASA).   

Coach Hatten has baseball and fastpitch softball coaching experience in both college and high school. He served as Volunteer Assistant Baseball Coach at Sterling High School in Sterling, IL in 1989, Director of baseball and softball instruction for the Sterling Park District in 1989, Volunteer Assistant Baseball Coach at the University of Mississippi in 1991, Volunteer Assistant Baseball Coach/Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at Mississippi Valley State University from 1993 to 1997, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for Mena’s Basketball at Rock Valley College, Assistant Softball Coach at Rock Valley College in 2004, 2007, assistant men’s baseball coach at Rock Valley College 2008, 2009 and Head Coach of the RVC Clubberz Men’s Fastpitch Club Team (2004-2015).   He led the Clubberz to a 7th place finish at the Men’s 23 and under national championships in 2006.   He coached the Clubberz to a first place finish in the 2009 ASA Chicago Metro fastpitch tournament.   

Coach Hatten was the Head Coach of the Blackhawk Athletic Club Pride Men’s 23 and Under Fastpitch softball club that won the 2008 International Softball Congress (ISC) 23 and Under World Tournament and finished 2nd in the ASA 23 and Under National Tournament in 2008.    Under his guidance ten of his players received All American Honors at ASA National Tournament events.   

Hatten has a rich playing history with many playing accomplishments in the game of men’s fastpitch softball.   In 2015 Hatten was inducted into the North American Fastpitch Association Wood Bat Hall of Fame.  In 2010, Hatten was chosen as one of the Top 20 male fastpitch softball players in the state of Illinois and received First Team All State honors at the Illinois ASA Open Fastpitch State Tournament.  Hatten has been named All-American in four ASA National Tournaments (2007, 2006, 2004, 1989),  was a two-time All-World Tournament Selection (1997 and 1995) in the National Softball Association (NSA) National Tournament, and an All-World selection in the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) National Tournament (2009: first team; 2005: second team; 1993: first team), and won a NSA fastpitch national tournament title in 1995 with Memphis Autozone, Memphis, TN. Hatten won batting championships in two ASA National Tournaments (the Men’s Major in 2004 and Men’s Class A Nationals in 2007).  In 2004 Hatten broke the Men’s Major batting record with an average .667.  Tim currently plays for the Rio Grande Senators a men’s fastpitch team based out of Midland, Texas.
