Matthews is entering her second year as the women's basketball assistant coach. Matthews returns to Rock Valley College after a very successful playing career where she spent two years from 2012-14 under former Head Coach Misty Opat. During her time as a player here at RVC, Matthews was a part of one National Championship team (2013) and a National Runner-Up team (2014) compiling a 60-8 record.
In her first season with the Golden Eagles, Matthews helped the Golden Eagles posted a 28-7 overall record in 2019-20 campaign, going 14-0 in the North Central Community College Conference. RVC made the Physical Education Center (The Nest) one of the toughest places to play in the Region IV with a 16-1 record on their home floor.
RVC was a leader in pretty much every statistical category in the nation. Rock Valley College’s fast-paced offense scored 80-or-more points 17 times last season with a season-best 107 points against Olive Harvey (Illinois) on the road. The Golden Eagles were 1st in total points scored at 2853, 6th at points per game at 81.5, 8th in field goals made per game at 30.8, 4th in 3 pointers made per game at 8.1, 3rd in offensive rebounds at 22, 4th in total rebounds per game at 52, 6th in assist per game at 19.1, 10th in steals at 14.5 and defensively at 19th only allowing 58 points per game while holding opponents to a 34.8 field goal percentage.
After completing her sophomore year Matthews stayed in the program and assumed Student Assistant duties where she helped in the everyday duties of player development of the guards on the team. A team which went on to win the programs third National Championship in four years with a 27-7 record.
Matthews most recent stop was at Rockford Auburn High School where she was apart of current Rock Valley Head Coach Darryl Watkins coaching staff during the 2018-19 season.
