2012-2013 National Championship

111Back-to-back!

After making history in 2012 with the women's first ever national championship for basketball, head coach Misty Opat and her Golden Eagles made history once more by winning a second straight championship.

The 2012-2013 regular season was more of the same for RVC as they rolled to a third straight conference championship with a perfect 13-0 record in the N4C, losing only two games all season before entering the Region IV tournament. Although they would receive a scare from College of DuPage in the Region IV championship game, the Golden Eagles found a way to prevail, 54-50, to advance to the NJCAA tournament for the third time overall and second year in a row.

In round one, #1 RVC dispatched of #8 Ocean County College (N.J.), 84-64, behind 18 points from freshman Shantiera Miller, and 14 points each from sophomores TaRicka Linzy and Revonnia Howard.

In the NJCAA semifinals, the Golden Eagles took down #5 Montgomery College (MD), 72-60, with Linzy leading the way once again with 23 points. Finally, in the NJCAA championship game on Saturday, March 16, 2013, Rock Valley College made it back-to-back national championships by taking down #2 Mohawk Valley CC (NY), in convincing fashion, 78-60. Howard led the way this time with a monster performance of 22 points and 21 rebounds. Linzy chipped in 15 more points in the title game and would walk away with tournament MVP honors.

The Golden Eagles finished the season with a sparkling 32-2 record and a second straight NJCAA national championship trophy.
