Rock Valley Men’s Soccer Match Program Record Five Straight Wins With 1-0 Victory Over South Suburban

SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. – Rock Valley College men's soccer continued its impressive run of form Friday with a hard-fought 1-0 road victory over South Suburban College, extending the Golden Eagles' winning streak to five matches while recording their third consecutive shutout.

Rock Valley controlled the tempo and spent much of the afternoon on the attack, but a disciplined South Suburban defensive effort kept the match scoreless deep into the second half. The Golden Eagles finished with a commanding 25-0 advantage in shots, placing 14 attempts on goal, and held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Despite generating 10 shots in the opening half, RVC entered halftime locked in a scoreless match. The Golden Eagles remained patient after the break and continued applying pressure, producing another 15 shots as they searched for the breakthrough.

Reese Schlichting was at the center of the Rock Valley attack throughout the match, accounting for 10 shots and putting five on goal. Antonio Ruiz added three shots, including two on frame, while Irving Dorman, Aidan Aarli, Alan Perez and Simone Badassa each generated multiple attempts.

Rock Valley's persistence was finally rewarded in the 86th minute. Schlichting created the decisive opportunity and found Arron Devenecia, who delivered the game-winning goal to put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0. The assist continued Schlichting's productive run and marked his third consecutive match recording a point. The RVC defense made the late goal stand. Goalkeeper Gavin Howell went the full 90 minutes and was credited with three saves to secure the clean sheet and the victory.

The result was another complete performance for a Rock Valley side that remained composed despite being unable to convert its early opportunities. The Golden Eagles continued to trust their approach, maintained control of the match and ultimately found the decisive goal when it mattered most.

With five consecutive victories and three straight shutouts, Rock Valley continues to build momentum as the Golden Eagles work through the September portion of their schedule and toward the heart of Region 4 play.
