Baseball: Golden Eagle Season Recap

The 2026 season was one to remember for the Rock Valley College baseball program as the Golden Eagles established themselves as one of the top NJCAA Division II teams in the nation. Finishing the year with a 36-18 overall record, Rock Valley showcased consistency, resilience, and determination throughout a highly competitive season.

The Golden Eagles battled their way to a third-place finish in the highly competitive Region 4 regular season standings, proving themselves against some of the Midwest's strongest junior college programs. Their success throughout the spring earned national attention, as Rock Valley closed the year ranked No. 23 in the final NJCAA Division II rankings a testament to the hard work and commitment displayed by the players and coaching staff all season long.

Rock Valley's season featured numerous signature victories and strong performances on both sides of the ball. The Golden Eagles demonstrated offensive firepower throughout the year while consistently competing with discipline and intensity in conference play. The Golden Eagles had another monster year offensively under guidance of Coach Jack Howard.  The offense put up 72 HR's breaking the Home Run mark 4 years in a row.  Jackson Neilitz finished with a .420 batting average, 10 home runs, and 55 RBI's.  Landon Ubrig had 12 home runs, and hit for the cycle to get RVC to the Final Four vs. Morton College.  Catcher, Gavin Obremski is heading off to Western Illinois University had another solid year with 10 home runs and 47 RBI's.  Five pitchers had over 25 Innings Pitched under leadership of Coach Ryan Wilwers.  Jonah Roper led the way with a 7-3 record and 61 innings pitched.  Matthew Woodward was a staple going 4-2 with 2 saves as he is headed to Valparaiso University in the fall.  Their ability to respond to adversity and win key games helped propel them into postseason competition and solidified their place among the nation's respected NJCAA programs.

The season ultimately came to an end during the Region 4 Super Regional. The Golden Eagles were the 2 seed going into the final 4.  On day one, RVC was defeated by Kankakee Community College by a score of 11-4 before suffering a narrow 4-3 loss to Bryant & Stratton College. Despite the finish, the Super Regional appearance capped off another successful chapter for the program.

While the final games did not end the way the Golden Eagles had hoped, the accomplishments of the 2026 squad should not be overlooked. A 36-win season, national ranking, and a postseason run reflect the continued growth and competitiveness of Rock Valley baseball. The Golden Eagles once again demonstrated that they can compete with the best programs in NJCAA Division II baseball.

As the program looks ahead to next season, the foundation continues to strengthen as expectations continue to rise for Golden Eagle baseball. The future remains bright in Rockford after another memorable season on the diamond. "I am so proud of how this group and resilient they are:  Being in the final 2 out of the last 3 years shows they are here to stay.  This team continued to work, get along, and compete on the National Scene."
