Box Score Women's Soccer Edges Metropolitan at Midwest South Showcase
St. Louis, MO – September 7, 2025
Rock Valley College Women's Soccer continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Metropolitan Community College on Sunday at the Midwest South Showcase.
The Golden Eagles struck early as Emilia Arias curled a first-half shot into the top corner, assisted by Hailey Westphal. Arias nearly doubled the lead shortly after, but her second goal was waved off for offsides.
RVC controlled much of the second half but saw momentum shift when Metropolitan equalized with a long-range strike against the run of play. The Golden Eagles responded, however, with a decisive moment in the closing stages. Arias slipped a pass through the defense to Crystal Garcia, who calmly slotted home her first goal of the season to secure the win.
After the match, Head Coach Kevan Watkins praised his team's resilience:
"We played a hard-working Metro team that fought until the last minute. I am happy with the willingness to fight back and get the win and still push for more in the game. Having the belief and urgency to claw back into a tough physical game is a good quality to have in a team. Our backline did well out of possession and I was happy with their composure on the ball and the way they switched play and looked to build through the midfield. I think this composure really helped us hold on to the ball at the right times and create opportunities."
With the result, Rock Valley improves to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 4 play. The Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday, September 13, when they travel to Wauwatosa, WI, to take on Region 4 opponent Bryant & Stratton College.
