Rock Valley College Rolls to Second Region Win with Dominant 8-0 Victory Over Illinois Valley
Rockford, IL – September 3, 2025 — The Rock Valley College Golden Eagles women's soccer team continued their impressive start to the 2025 season with a commanding 8-0 victory over Illinois Valley Community College. The win improved Rock Valley's record to a perfect 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 4 play, while vaulting the Golden Eagles up to the #13 spot in the Week 2 NJCAA Division II National Rankings.
The Golden Eagles wasted no time asserting their dominance, opening the scoring in just the third minute. Freshman Johanna Hawley was set up by Sam Wendt before skillfully lifting the ball over the Illinois Valley goalkeeper. Boylan Catholic product Joscelyn Posada then recorded her first goal of the season with a brilliant solo effort, winning possession outside the eighteen-yard box, maneuvering past a defender, and curling the ball into the far post.
Shortly after, Freeport,IL native Rachel Busker, making her season debut after recovering from injury, found Hailey Westphal on the wing. Westphal cut inside and fired a precise shot into the far corner for the Golden Eagles' third goal. Sareth Marquez added to the tally with a powerful strike from the top of the eighteen-yard box, her first of two goals on the day.
Kassandra Jimenez notched her fourth goal of the season following excellent buildup play featuring a diagonal ball from Emilia Arias and a crisp first-touch pass from Johanna Hawley, putting Rock Valley ahead 5-0 at halftime.
The Golden Eagles maintained their momentum in the second half, with Isabelle Rivera netting her fifth goal of the season by cutting inside on her left foot and firing a clinical shot home. The scoring was capped off by goals from Keyla Suarez and Sareth Marquez, with the game being called in the 71st minute after Rock Valley recorded their eighth goal.
Rock Valley now sets their sights on an upcoming road match up this weekend in St. Louis against Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City, who recently earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against nationally ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College.
