Men's Soccer: Loaded Region 4 Tournament

Rock Valley College Men's Soccer finished their regular season 7-7-4 and the 11th overall seed in the Region 4 tournament. The Golden Eagles will travel to Morton College this Wednesday for their first postseason match, kickoff is set for 2pm this week.  RVC will need to win 4 games in the Region 4 tournament to earn an automatic berth into the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The top seed is Madison College, who will play the winner of the eight-nine matchup between College of DuPage and McHenry County.

Along with RVC, the other half of the bracket is No.2 seed Carl Sandburg, who will play the winner of the seven-ten matchup between Moraine Valley and Triton. Prairie State wraps up the final pairing as the No.3 seed, who will play the winner of Morton-Rock Valley on Saturday. Wednesday's matchup between the Panthers and Golden Eagles will be the fourth consecutive postseason the two programs have met. 

In 2022, Morton defeated Rock Valley 3-2 in Cicero, coming back twice from one-goal deficits in the semifinal, before knocking off Prairie State in the Region Final, then finished National Runners-up to Prairie State in the 2022 Division 2 National Tournament. In 2023, Rock Valley traveled to Cicero again, this time knocking off Morton 4-3, thanks to a commanding start that featured two goals minutes apart, and a 3-0 halftime lead. Rock Valley would go on to fall 3-2 in the Region 4 Championship but earned one of the four Division 2 At-Large bids for the National Tournament in Arizona.

A season ago in 2024, the Golden Eagles used goals in each half to jump out to a commanding 2-0 lead, but with :10 left in regulation, Morton scored to push the game into overtime. Morton then advanced on sudden-death penalties and would later defeat Elgin in the Region 4 Championship 3-2, using similar late-match dramatics to earn the region's automatic qualifier.

The road to Wichita, Kansas for Rock Valley starts this Wednesday in Cicero, Ill. at 2:00 p.m. All seeds 5-12 will be in action on Wednesday, winners will advance to the top four seeds on Saturday, who received first-round byes to the quarterfinals.
