Rock Valley College Women's Soccer Opening Weekend Recap

Rockford, IL Friday August 23, 2024

The Golden Eagles finished the opening weekend of action with 1 win and one loss. On Friday #14 ranked RVC took on #11 Schoolcraft. Schoolcraft jumped out to a 2 goal lead in the first half capitalizing on their opportunities. Rock Valley created several good opportunities in the first half but were unable to convert until Emma Ambrose received a one touch pass from Francia Hernandez in transition and was able to hit a scorcher into the top corner from 30 yards to beat Schoolcraft goalkeeper Kate Shippe. RVC pushed through the second half for the equalizer but were unable to create clear cut chances that they had earlier in the game. The Ocelots edged the Golden Eagles with shots on goal 10 to 6 and came away with a season opening win.

On Sunday August 25th the women made the trip to Muskegon, Michigan to take on Muskegon College. The score line was a tight one as Muskegon were well organized and battled the entire game. The Golden Eagles tended to dictate play and found the opening goal midway in the first half, which ended up being the winner. The goal came from buildup from Goalkeeper Naitzy Garcia to her center back that played between lines, switching play through the midfield, and combining to put winger Jocelyn Harms through on goal to slot it home for the game winner. Muskegon made things difficult in the back and middle third for the Golden Eagles. Muskegon goalkeeper Jessica Stewart made several key saves to keep the Jayhawks in the game right to the end. The game is the first win for RVC on the road and the first shutout of the season as the ladies go into a Wednesday August 28th meetup vs North Iowa Area CC at RVC stadium 4:00 PM.
