Golden Eagle baseball continues their hot play into April. RVC has won 13 out of their last 15 games and does not look to be slowing down anytime soon. The Rock Valley bats have been red hot since they swept Bay College. The hitting continued when they faced MATC in a doubleheader. Rock Valley put up a football number in game 1, scoring 26 runs. Jackson Lindquist was 5 for 5 with a Home Run, Double, and 6 RBI's. Cole Kersten and Ethan Krueger also went deep for the Golden Eagles in game 1. On the mound, Griffin Smith again dominated, throwing 3 innings, striking out 7, allowing no hits to earn the victory. RVC took game one 26-3. In game 2 Rock Valley would go on to fall 10-13. Jackson Lindquist went 3-4 with another Home Run and 3 RBI's. Cole Kersten added 3 RBI's himself well going 3-3. Konner Giddley also went 3-4 in game 2.
The Golden Eagles would go on to fac IL Valley next. Rock Valley would take game 1 of the series behind another strong performance at the plate from Jackson Lindquist going 3-3 with another Home Run. Griffin Smith took the mound for RVC in game 1 throwing 6 innings allowing only 2 runs and striking out 9. The win would give Griffin his 4th win of the season. Jackson Wohlers would come in to shut the door in the 7th and earn his second save of the season. In Game 2 against IL Valley, the RVC bats came alive as they would sweep IVCC with a 11-1 win. Grant Garrett and Javy Garcia both went deep in the game to power the Golden Eagles. Jackson Lindquist would add 3 RBIs of his own as well. Max Strash took the mound for Rock Valley and would dominate throwing 4 innings well giving up no Earned Runs and striking out 5, to get his 2nd win of the season. Jack Kerpen would finish the game in the 5th shutting the door on the eagles of IVCC.
Rock Valley would go on to battle the Wolves of Joliet in their next series. RVC would take game one 7-2. Jackson Lindquist and Grant Garrett would jump start the Golden Eagles with multiple hits and both knocking in an RBI. Cole Kersten and Ethan Krueger would both go on to add an RBI of their own. Kahler Key took the mound for the Golden Eagles and threw 5 innings only allowing 1 hit well striking out 6. The strong performance would give Key his 3rd win of the season. Game 2 would be a back-and-forth game; however, the Wolves would come out on top 7-5. Despite the loss, Ryan Buschmann had a great game at the plate going 3-3, with a triple and 2 Runs Batted In. The series against Joliet would mark the end of March, with the Golden Eagles having a 15-9 record as they head into April.
In the first series of April, RVC would take on Highland. Game 1 would see Griffin Smith take the mound. As usual Smith would dominate throwing 6 innings only allowing 3 Runs and striking out 8 Cougars. At the plate Cole Kersten came up big going 3-3 with 3 RBI's, Ethan Chance and Sean McGurk would add multiple hits of their own, as well as combine to bring in 3 RBI's. Behind Griffin and the strong performances at the plate, RVC would take game 1, 8-3 and would give Smith his 5th win of the season. In Game 2 versus Highland, the bats stayed hot as Jackson Lindquist and Ethan Krueger both knocked in 2 RBI's. Grant Marshall took the mound for RVC and dazzled, throwing 6 innings only allowing 2 Hits, 1 Run, and striking out 7 to help give Rock Valley a 6-1 win, and Marshall's first win of the season.
The Golden Eagles would then take on the Chaparrals from DuPage. Game 1 was another back-and-forth game, however RVC would use a big 4 run fourth inning to propel themselves to a 6-4 win. Jackson Lindquist would go 3-4 at the plate with a Run Batted In. Ricky Powell would go deep and knock in 4 runs himself. Max Strash would come in to earn his 3rd win of the season. Jackson Wohlers would close out the final inning and two thirds to earn his 3rd save of the season. Game 2 against DuPage, Rock Valley would earn a victory behind strong pitching from Mason Lei and Troy McLeese. Lei opened the game for RVC going 4 innings allowing no Earned Runs and striking out 8. McLeese would close out the final 3 innings earning his second save of the year. Jackson Lindquist again had a big game going 2-2 well driving in 3 runs. Garrett, Krueger, and Spoto would all chip in an RBI to help propel the Golden Eagles to a 7-3 win.
In RVC's next battle they would take on Kankakee in a 9-inning game. This would be a high scoring affair as teams would combine to score 25 runs. Sean McGurk and Konnor Giddley would both go yard in this game to give RVC a boost. McGurk was 3-4 with 3 RBI's. Spoto, Garcia, Kersten, and Giddley would all go on to have 2 RBI's as well. Troy Mcleese would start on the mound, before RVC would turn to Max Strash, who would throw 3 innings allowing no Earned Runs and striking out 3. In the 8th Jackson Wohlers would come in to pitch the final inning and a third to shut the door on the Cavaliers. This would give Strash his 4th win, Wohlers his 5th save, and the Golden Eagles 14-11 win over Kankakee.
The win over Kankakee would give Rock Valley its 5th straight win and would improve their record to 20-9. The Golden Eagles will head to Kankakee CC on Friday, April 12th for their next game. It is scheduled to be a 9-inning game with first pitch at 3:00 PM. RVC will return home Sunday April 14th to take on the South Suburban Bulldogs in a doubleheader. Game 1 is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
