Baseball Sweeps Bay College

Rock Valley College Baseball continued their hot play this past weekend, as they earned a 3-game sweep of the Bay College Norse. The home opening series for RVC was very friendly, as it saw the Golden Eagles improve their record to 11-7 and winners of their last 4 games. 

In game 1 of the series Griffin Smith started on the mound for RVC looking for his second win of the season. Rock Valley was able to get the scoring going in the bottom of the 3rd When John Spoto homered to right field giving RVC a 1-0 lead. Bay College would go on to respond with an RBI double in the top half of the 4th to even the score. The Golden Eagles would waste no time taking the lead back in the bottom half, as Javy Garcia would double to left field, scoring Ethan Chance and Ethan Krueger. This would put RVC in the driver's seat for the rest of the game. Krueger would then single in an RBI of his own in the 5th, to give RVC a 4-1 lead after 5 innings. Griffin smith would exit the mound after throwing 5 innings giving up only 1 hit and 1 earned run, well fanning 10 batters. Jackson Wohlers would end up pitching the final 3 innings allowing now runs and striking out 6. Rock Valley would add 4 more runs in the bottom of the 7th. Ethan Chance got the scoring going with a 2 RBI single. Sean McGurk and River Lindsey would each add an RBI in the inning to give RVC a commanding 8-1 lead. Despite the big lead there would still be fireworks when Sean McGurk stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 8th with the bases loaded. McGurk would destroy a ball over the right field fence for a Grand Slam to give the Golden Eagles 12-1 run rule win in game 1. 

Game 2 of the series saw Mason lei take the mound for Rock Valley. RVC would get things going early. Jackson Lindquist tripled in the bottom of the 1st inning scoring 2 runs. The Golden Eagles would score each inning of the game, with a big four running inning taking place in the 4th. RVC would add a run in the 5th and 6th to win 10-0 in game 2. Mason Lei threw all 6 innings, giving up 1 hit and no runs, striking out 10. The win would give Lei his third win of the season making him 3-0.  

The finale of the series was another dominant performance from the Golden Eagles. RVC would score 14 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings. Kahler Key was also sensational on the mound for Rock Valley as he threw a no-hitter, pitching all 5 innings and striking out 12. The dominant performance gave Key his 3rd win of the season. Nick Mardis, Cooper Kuemmel, and John Spoto all drove in multiple runs for RVC. 

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Tuesday, March 19th as they take on Milwaukee Area Tech in a doubleheader. Game 1 is scheduled to start at 1:30 on the campus of Rock Valley College.
