Rockford, IL: The Golden Eagles hosted the 9
th annual Rumble in The Rock event this past weekend against D2 power Illinois Central College. The Golden Eagles would go on to win the game 78-62 over the visiting Cougars. This win would help propel the Golden Eagles to the 3
rd ranked team in the country.
There was a lot of excitement heading into Saturday's match up against the Cougars. The Golden Eagles who were previously 5
th in a physical back and forth game with the Cougars. The Golden Eagles would jump out going on a 6-2 run to take an early lead over ICC before the Cougars would go on a run of their own to take an early 14-13 lead in the first quarter before falling behind 21-17 to the Golden Eagles to end the quarter. "We knew coming into the game that it would be physical and it would have an atmosphere and feel that reminds you of a National Tournament game." Stated Coach
Darryl Watkins Rock Valley would enter halftime with a 7 point lead over ICC 34-27.
The Golden Eagles would fall behind early in the 3
rd quarter behind a 12-3 run put together by the Cougars but would quickly regain the lead and never look back as the Golden Eagles would extend to their largest lead in the game of 19 points before finally putting away the game with a 16 point victory 78-62. "We had been here before in this very same game on this very same stage, against ICC last season. Last year we couldn't finish out possessions and it ended up going south for us and costing the game, but not this year these young ladies really dug in and embraced this moment took a huge step growing up right before our coaching staffs eyes." Stated Watkins
Freshman Mia Moore would lead the Golden Eagles with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assist on the night. Sophomores Jasmyn Hale 14 points, 6 rebounds, McKenna Williams 10 points 6 rebounds, 6 assist and Elli Teubert 10 points would round out double digit scoring for Rock Valley. With this victory the Golden Eagles snapped an 8 game losing streak to the Cougars giving Rock Valley its first win in program history over Illinois Central.

RVC will host the second annual Martin Luther King Classic right here on the campus of Rock Valley College. Friday will have Highland Community College face off against Richard Daley College at 5pm followed by the Golden Eagles taking on the Skyhawks of sauk Valley Community College at 7pm. Saturday will see Sauk Valley match up against Daley at 11am while RVC will take on Highland at 1pm.
