First HalfĀ

Rock Valley struck first in the 26th minute. As possession carried winger Landon Weishaar into the right flank, Weishaar served in a ball that Alfredo Jimenez met in front of goal and buried the opportunity to make it 1-0. It took just two minutes for the Golden Eagles to strike a second time. Sophomore defender Ben Colborn threaded a driven ball through the Owl defense for Weishaar to convert his opportunity. Weishaar collected a beautifully placed ball by Colborn on his first touch, beat the Owl goalkeeper with a second, then calmly placed the ball into the back of the net to double the lead.Ā

"Loved the way these guys responded in the first half," said head coach Tim Romanello following the match. "It was good to see a few goals support our possession and attack."Ā

Second HalfĀ

The second half saw the Golden Eagles struggle out of the gates. The Rock Valley defense allowed a few dangerous opportunities in front of goal, but Oakton couldn't convert and the Owls saw very limited time in the Rock Valley final third for the rest of the match.Ā

"It took us a few minutes to find our rhythm again there in the second half," added Romanello. But once we made a few adjustments, we settled down got into a much better flow."Ā

Despite a large percentage of possession, Rock Valley needed 35 minutes to final their third goal. Taylor Sowell and Max Rebori combined for the hockey assist as Jovanni Ramos tapped home the Golden Eagles' third goal of the afternoon. Sowell carried the ball down into the left-hand channel, served up a ball that was headed on to Ramos on the back post. All Ramos had to do was beat the keeper.Ā

Another quick strike in the 84th minute, the Golden Eagles put the Owls out of reach with a fourth, Weishaar's second of the afternoon. Freshman Adan Pina eluded a number of Owl defenders centrally, combining his way down to the end line, finally squared up and provided Weishaar with a final tap in.Ā
