Taylor Sowell netted the first and last goal of the game. "Saturday's final is the ultimate way to showcase our players and our program. It's our region's pinnacle game. That's special. It's a rewarding accomplishment for any program and a testament to all the hard work we've put in. We are incredibly blessed to be playing for a region championship that's filled with quality from top-to-bottom. But with all the excitement that comes with playing in a final, there's work to be done on Saturday. It's great that we've reached the final, but that's not the ultimate goal, it's to win." Stated Head Coach
Tim Romanello
The Golden Eagles women's soccer program downed Morton College in the Region IV Tournament Semifinal on Wednesday afternoon. #7
Anika Elgin was pulled down in the box leading to a penalty that was converted by #25
Jocelyn Harms for her 26
th goal of the season and third of the tournament. Harms and Elgin came close a couple times but weren't able to add to their lead. Bella Spera and
Gisselle Farias anchored the Golden Eagles backline that held Morton to only a few opportunities on goal. Goalkeeper #99
Naitzy Garcia completed the Golden Eagles 9
th clean sheet of the year. Two of her four saves were big ones to hold the lead and ensured a spot in the Region IV Final on Saturday November 4
th at Madison Area Technical College at 2:30 PM.Â
Â
"Morton did well to try to condense the space through the middle of the field and look to counter when they won the ball. When we were able to get the ball down and possess, we caused a lot of problems in wide areas where we were able to create overloads or isolate their outside backs. It was a hard-fought game for both teams. I am very proud of the women and what they continue to achieve this season. This game was significant because it was the first time this season, we had a 1 goal lead late in a game that we had to hold on to. It was a good test to see this type of game out for the win." coach Watkins stated.Â
Â
The women's volleyball team would open up Region 4 tournament play with a three set sweep over South Suburban College.
Bria Johnston would record 15 kills which was a (season high) for her,
Maisie Green and
Aaliyah Butler recorded 6 kills each. Â
Aaliyah Butler and
Maisie Green would also record 3 blocks each on the night.Â
Nevaeh Cruz tallied 6 service aces, to go along with
Jakhi Smith 4 service aces,
Maddie Smith 3 and
C.J. Blum and
Bria Johnston had 2 services aces each.
Â
With that win the Golden Eagles will now face off against the Carl Sandburg Chargers in the Region 4 Semi-Final game at Madison College. The last time the Golden Eagles faced the Chargers back in August RVC would walk away with an 3-1 win. "We are excited to be back in the final four of the Region 4 tournament. We have to continue taking things one point and one game at a time. I thought the team did a great job staying focused last night." Stated Head Coach Kristy Pierce
