Women's Basketball: Cold Shooting Dooms Golden Eagles

Rockford, IL: The Golden Eagles hosted the 8th annual Rumble in The Rock event this past weekend against the #8 team in the country Illinois Central College.

The hype leading into this game was matched by the environment that was surrounded with it. The Golden Eagles who are ranked 11th in the national poll would be in a slug fest with the Cougars who are 8th in the national poll as well. The Cougars would jump out going on a 7-2 run to take an early lead over RVC before the Golden Eagles would go on a 9-4 run of their own to tie the game up at 11 apiece midway through the first quarter, before finally trailing 18-20 at the end of one. "We knew coming into the game that it would be tough game in which every possession would count." Stated Coach Darryl Watkins

Rock Valley would enter halftime with a 3 point lead over ICC. "We had a lot of opportunities to put this game away. We forced 26 turnovers in which we scored 26 points off of, we out rebounded them by 7, we had 16 2nd chance points. We even got up 21 more shots than ICC. The deciding factor was we couldn't finish those looks that we got." Stated Watkins
The Golden Eagles cold shooting would eventually be their downfall as they dropped the game to the Cougars 62-66.
McKenna Williams would lead the Golden Eagles with 11 points 14 rebounds. Also reaching double figures would be Emily Rich with 11 points and Nevaeh Hughes with 11 points 9 rebounds.
