Men's Soccer Falls in Madison, 1-0

MADISON, Wisc. – The Golden Eagles held the possession edge 60-40, but fell to Madison College 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Madison, Wisconsin.

A scoreless first half saw the Golden Eagles with plenty of opportunities to take the lead, including a 18th minute save of sophomore Roberto Davila's that seemed to be headed side-netting and a lead. Rock Valley would outshoot Madison 7-1 in the first half.

"Unfortunate, really," said head coach Tim Romanello. "We had chances, but didn't convert. We conceded one, they converted and it ended up being the match-winner."

A quick counterattack in the 54th minute by Madison proved to be the different.

"We have to play with more conviction in the attacking third," added Romanello. "Still looking for that moment where our urgency, pace and skill merge. We'll rebound, take a look at a few things and get ready to go again on Tuesday."

Miguel De Leon conceded the lone goal and made three saves. Sophomore Elijah Rufer struck the post twice.

Despite outshooting the Wolfpack 16-7, Rock Valley dropped yet another close match to Madison—third straight one goal match.

Rock Valley College falls to 1-1-0 (0-0-0 Region 4). Madison is now 1-0-0 (0-0-0). The Golden Eagles are back in action Tuesday (Aug. 23) afternoon when they return home to play Bryant & Stratton College (Wisconsin). Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm cst.
