ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Golden Eagles dominated Dakota County Tech for much of the match Friday afternoon. A sold-out
Chad Herren Pavilion saw four different goal scorers and plenty of fireworks in Rock Valley's Division II debut.
Freshman
Alejandro Montalvo scored a brace on the afternoon, leading the RVC men en route to their 5-0 result. Montalvo's first strike came in the thirteenth minute, after which Rock Valley never looked back.
"Really a complete team effort tonight," said head coach
Tim Romanello. "A lot of positives to take away from tonight, nearly everyone played and contributed in some way, shape or form. [It was] especially nice to see our freshman contribute as much as they did today. [I thought] they impacted the game immediately and throughout [the game]."
Fellow Rockford East product and freshman,
Julio Davila, would double the Golden Eagles leads in the 35
th minute. Four minutes later, he would assist his older brother,
Roberto Davila, of which the senior Davila would craftily put away his shot side-netting, pushing the lead to 3-0 just before the break.
The second half was once again much of the same. Montalvo would net the team's fourth goal in the 64
th minute off a tightly played ball from
Elijah Rufer.
Marco Luna-gen's goal in the 86
th minute would complete the scoring, finishing first-time off of a service provided by
Brady Williams.
Alyas Fritz was solid in goal, collecting three saves and the shutout.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Blue Knights 22-7 and dominated the possession game, keeping the ball for just over 68% of the time and connected 496 of their 536 passes.
Rock Valley College is 1-0-0 (0-0-0 Region 4). Dakota County Tech drops to 0-1-0 (0-0-0). The Golden Eagles are back in action Sunday (Aug. 21) evening when they travel to Madison College in a 1:00 pm kickoff.
