For the ninth time in ten seasons, the Rock Valley College Women's Basketball has captured the NJCAA DIII Region IV Championship. The Golden Eagles, the #7 ranked team in NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball, were in a back and forth battle with the #2 seed Joliet Junior College for the entire game.
The Golden Eagles would jump out to an early 14-4 lead over the Wolves, before Joliet would go on a 6-4 run to end the quarter. The second quarter would be Joliet making a run of their own. The wolves would go on a 6-0 during the second to cut the lead to two points heading into halftime.
"We knew we were going to be in for a dog fight," stated Head Women's Basketball Coach
Darryl Watkins. "We beat them at our place pretty good and they pulled off a gritty win at their place."
In the second half the story of the game would be no different with the back and forth battle between the two teams. In the 4
th quarter Joliet would take their first and only lead of the game after a 7-0 run to go up 44-40.
"Our kids kept their composure. They didn't let the run rattle them or through them off of their game. They weathered the storm and we made a run of our own to finish out the game." Stated Watkins
The Golden Eagles made a 14-4 run to close out the final 3 minutes of the game. RVC was led by
Camron Blank with 21 points and 20 rebounds.
Rachel Rittmeyer and
Breeyona Burrell both missed double figures with 9 points apiece.
