Women's Soccer Drops First N4C Contest

Box Score Rock Valley College Women's Soccer opened N4C play at Madison College Wednesday night at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Sports Complex. Madison was receiving votes for the NJCAA DIII national rankings and move to a 3-1-1 record on the season. The Golden Eagles have faced a tough schedule losing to NJCAA DII #5 ranked Waubonsee Community College and last year's National Tournament participants Elgin College.

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring with Julia Theien in the 17th minute driving into the midfield from center back and unleashed a strike from 40 yards out to beat Madison goalkeeper Marin Stauffacher. Madison battled back at 35th minute on a free kick that found an unmarked Monica Tapia-Gutierr to even up the score. Several minutes later Angelina Perez found the back of the net from the top of box for the go-ahead goal.
 
The second half started with Madison creating a few chances with the break-through coming in the 52nd minute. Madison forward Alexis Kulow was played in by Karmen Smyth firing her shot at the near post with RVC Goalkeeper Kayla Rowley getting a hand to it but unable to keep it out. Rowley came up big saving a penalty kick at the 60 minute mark. The fourth goal came from Taylor Peterson after Ashley Belk capitalized on an Golden Eagle mistake was able to get behind the defense a cut a ball back for a tap in. Madison keeper Marin Stauffacher denied the Golden Eagles a late consolation goal with a top corner save off a Julia Theien free kick in the closing minutes of the game.  
 
The Golden Eagles move to 0-1-0 in Region play and will be looking to get their first win Saturday 18th 4:00 PM at home vs Harper College.
