There is a lot of excitement with the start of the 2021 baseball season is right around the corner. The Golden Eagles are currently ranked 9
th in the NJCAA pre-season poll. The team has a lot to prove as the 2020 campaign was cut short due to Covid-19. The team is excited and ready in anticipation for what this spring will bring.Â
RVC baseball brings back several sophomores in limited time. "I like who we are bringing back as they got a taste of what the season will look like. I know they are eager to get back on the field and simply go out and compete" stated Head Coach
Chad Herren.
Logan Burbach will be in charge on the mound leading this young group of men as he was granted an extra year of eligibility due to the season being cut short due to Covid-19 in 2020. A few other returners that will contribute greatly on the mound for the Golden Eagles are:
Josh Loomis,
Bryce Miller,
Ryan Wilwers,
Austin Steele, and
Nick Digirolamo. "We need to get quality innings from this group this spring" Herren mentions.
Tyler Ingram is a transfer and University of Illinois Chicago commit that will eat up valuable innings for the team going into this spring. The team expects big things from newcomer
Jimmy Fairley as well. "The great thing about the pitching staff is the work Coach
Caleb Bounds has done to prepare them for the upcoming spring season, not to mention we always have a guy or two that steps up and plays a viable role for us on the mound",
Chad Herren discusses about his team.
On the offensive side of the ball, the team will be a fun and fast team to watch. A few of the key returners that will be play big roles will be:
Miguel Baez,
Brett Ehr,
Corbin Ovist,
Carlos Martinez, and
Lucas Stoner. With having a solid fall here at RVC on the field, a few others will be given substantial opportunities to make a sudden impact. A few key pieces to keep an eye out for are
Evan Tocmo and
Brett Freiberg. "This will be a team that can manufacturer runs with some pop up and down the line-up, I know they are excited to get out and show their talents this spring" stated Herren.
Overall, this team has a chance to be solid down the stretch. As always it will come down to throwing strikes, executing offensively, and playing good defense. There is no question that the team is excited to go and play and show what they can do. The team is coming off a solid fall with full team intrasquads, weights, practices, and individual workouts.Â
RVC Baseball will open up their spring campaign March 2
nd at Morton College. The games this year will be live streamed by Just A Game. Following the double header vs. Morton, the team heads down to play Lakeland College on March 5
th, and then a four game set with Lincoln Land Community College on March 6
th and 7
th. The team will have a tough schedule heading into the spring and will have to prove themselves daily. For the entire 2021 regular season schedule go toÂ
