11/7/2021 10:12:00 AM

Sugar Grove, IL: #2 RVC Women's Basketball visited Waubonsee Community College and came up on the losing end 87-93. The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter 23-16 as RVC came out hot offensively and allowed their defense to lead to some easy baskets. "We were taking away what Waubonsee wanted to do early and often and that was credit to our defense and rebounding."
Waubonsee would back and forth in the second quarter going on a 5-0 run to close out the half and extend their lead to 6 38-44. In the second half Waubonsee would strike first once again taking a commanding 22 point lead with 7:16 left in the 4th quarter. The Golden Eagles would put up one last fight putting together runs of 10-2, 15-7 before Waubonsee would close out the game with a key stop on the defensive end and a free throw to keep the game at two possessions.

"We didn't put together a full game of basketball on Saturday afternoon. We turned the basketball over more than we would like to and we couldn't put together enough stops on the defensive end of the court giving up 21 offensive rebounds. We held our opponent to under 40% shooting from the field we just have to get better at finishing possessions" said Head Women's Basketball Coach Darryl Watkins. "Waubonsee is a solid group that brought high energy and they hit some key shots through out the course of the game. This was a great challenge for us moving forward in a season opener for our young team. Our schedule does not get any easier as we move forward with our season."

The Golden Eagles were led by freshman Ashanti Brown (28 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assist), Kameryn Tillman (15 points 6 rebounds), Leilani Murray (14 points) and sophomore Rachel Rittmeyer (13 points).
