Rockford, IL: #2 RVC Women's Basketball hosted Highland Community College and came up on the losing end 59-61 The Golden Eagles were in a battle during the first quarter going back and forth with the Cougars. Highland would come out in the second quarter with a slight edge taking advantage of the Golden Eagles turnovers being able to grab a 6 point lead heading into halftime. "We didn't value possessions on either end of the floor in the final three minutes of the first half, just couldn't put together stops allowing 2
nd chance opportunities on the defensive end and we couldn't find a way to put the ball in the bucket." Stated Watkins.
In the second half RVC would battle to tie the game with 2:21 left in the fourth quarter before ultimately giving up another offensive rebound and put back by Tyra Clark. for the Cougars to take their final lead with 11 seconds left. The Golden Eagles would have an opportunity to send the game to overtime but missed the game tying basket that would have sent the game to overtime.
"We didn't play our brand of basketball Wednesday night, we are seeing flashes of how good we can be in spurts. We couldn't muster up enough defensive stops, we lost the rebounding battle, didn't hit shots and turned the ball over in key moments," said Head Women's Basketball CoachÂ
Darryl Watkins. "Highland came in and played a solid game hitting us with their best punch. This was a game we wanted to win and needed to win to build some momentum moving forward. Our schedule does not get any easier as we move forward, but we will continue to get this young group of freshman to grow up quickly." Stated Watkins
