ROCKFORD – Rock Valley College battled for a 1-0 N4C match win over College of DuPage at home on Saturday afternoon.
 
Sophomore Roberto Davila scored the winner in the 79^th minute on a rocket strike that found the far post side netting. Davila has now scored the last two game-winners for the Golden Eagles and recorded his eighth goal of the season.
 
"What a worldie!" said head coach Tim Romanello following the game Saturday afternoon. "Roberto has been absolutely outstanding for us this year. That's a very big moment for him and us both."
 
The Golden Eagles improved to 7-1-0 on the season after their final non-region game of the 2021 season. Rock Valley College are now 3-0-0 versus out-of-region competition and doesn't include a 2-1 halftime abandoned match due to weather to kick off the fall season.
 
"It took us a bit to find our legs," added Romanello. "When you get into a routine of playing, then don't play in a week, it can be tough to get back to that game speed. The guys did their jobs and sometimes the result isn't going to be pretty on the eyes."
 
Goalkeeper Miguel DeLeon played all 90 minutes and earned the shutout, aided by a strong defensive effort from the RVC backline that allowed just three shots and forced DeLeon to make only one save.
 
The Golden Eagles are in the midst of four games in seven days. They will host Illinois Valley in a rescheduled game from earlier this year. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM and will be streamed on JustAGameLive.
