Golden Eagle Ball opened up their spring campaign on Sunday February 23
rd on the road against regional opponent in Triton College. The Golden Eagles were slated for a double header.
Game 1 started with freshman
Ethan Christians on the mound for his first career start here at RVC. Rock Valley College struck 1
st in the top of the 2
nd for a run, and then held the lead until the bottom of the 7
th as the Trojans tied it up 5-5. Going into the top of the 8
th, the Eagles tacked on two more runs going up 7-5 and the score remained as
Zac Cummins picked up his first win of the season and
Gage Stine picked up the save. At the plate,
Tegan Woods wend 2 for 5 with an RBI,
Bill Blank went 2 for 3,
David Mitchell went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI, and
Zac Baden went 3 for 3 with 3 runs with 2 stolen bases.
Game 2 started out slow with no score until the 4
th inning where the Golden Eagles struck first and put up 4 runs in that inning behind the pitching of
Chris Cuppini. The Trojans did not go quietly as they tacked on one run in the bottom of the 4
th. RVC added 3 more runs in the top of 6
th and 1 more in the top of the 7
th to remain ahead and win the game 8-1 over a very solid Triton College Team. Offensively again
Zac Baden came up huge going 1 for 2 with 2 runs and a walk.
David Mitchell went 2 for 3 with 2 runs.
Masen Beatty came on strong going 2 for 4 with 5 RBI on the day.
"The first game of the year is always exciting, they should be excited. The great thing is they took care of business and played a team game throughout the day. Triton is a tough game and well coached." Coach Herren comments. "This should be a fun ride with this group of guys' going forward!"
