Triton College Notes
Marques Hatch is entering his third season as Head Women's Basketball Coach at Triton College.
Last season, Hatch led the Lady Trojans to a 19-13 record. Triton finished tied for second place in the North Central Community College Conference (N4C). It was the programs highest placing in the league since 1994. The Lady Trojans advanced to the regional semifinals for the first time under his tenure during 2018-19 season.
Hatch took over the program following the departure of former head coach Kellee Robertson in 2016. In his first season in 2015-16, the Lady Trojans posted a record of 11-20. Despite the record and number of players on the squad, it was clear that the ladies fought hard in all the games
Prior to coming to Triton, Marques coached for 9 years at Proviso West High School in Hillside, IL. He coached sophomore basketball for 7 years, where he laid the foundation for the program that led to (5) 20 win seasons and 4 conference championships. He became Varsity Head Coach in 2015 and stayed at the helm for 2 years. His last year at Proviso West, his squad posted a record of 20-9 and captured a West Suburban Silver Conference Championship. Up-tempo offense and suffocating defense became a staple of Coach Hatch and the Lady Panthers.
Marques, a Proviso West alum, was a standout baseball and basketball player. He was an all-conference athlete in both sports and received a scholarship to play collegiate baseball at Grambling State University in Grambling, LA.
Marques is also a founding member of Athletic Konnection NFP. This organization provides Tutoring, Fitness training, Baseball skills instruction, Basketball skills instruction, Football skills instruction, Mentoring and Community Service. They aim to develop student athletes, sponsor and/or support community events, mentor students towards making right choices and making a positive impact on our community.
Hatch, a Broadview, Illinois native, holds a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Grambling State (2008).
Darryl Watkins is entering his 1
st year at the helm for the Golden Eagles. Watkins spent five years as an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for the Golden Eagles under legendary Coach Misty Opat. In five years, he was an integral part of the 2013, 2015 and 2017 National Championship teams and the 2014 National Runner-Up. He was heavily involved in the program's recruiting, player development, strength and conditioning, and game preparation. RVC was an impressive 138-24 over those five seasons. A Rockford native, Watkins graduated from hometown Auburn High School in 2007, and from Rock Valley College with his AA in 2009. He has also received his bachelor's from Rockford University in Physical Education in 2012, as well as his master's in Sports Administration from Chadron State College (NE) in 2016.
