Rock Valley is an NJCAA Division III member of the North Central Community College Conference (N4C)… RVC Women's Basketball remains at the #4 in this week's NJCAA DIII Poll of the season. The last game out saw the Golden Eagles defeat Wright College 95-38. The series total record has the Golden Eagles with a 22-18 record over the Wolfpack, with Rock Valley winning 7 of the last 10 match ups.
Madison College Notes
Lois Heeren is in her fourth season as head coach of the Madison College women's basketball team after being hired in August 2016. Heeren, who came to Madison College after 17 years as head coach at NCAA Division III University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL), has led the WolfPack to a 59-24 record in her first three years. In addition to taking over the women's basketball program, Heeren also is a physical education instructor at Madison College.
Following the 2017-18 season, Heeren was named the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Junior College-Women Coach of the Year. At Madison College, she has coached two all-americans, one conference and region player of the year, and seven all-conference and all-region players.
Heeren left UWL after becoming the winningest coach in school history with 209 wins, a number that is also the ninth most all-time in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). In 2010-11, UWL earned an at-large bid for the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in 23 seasons, matching a school record with a dozen league victories in the process. Heeren was named the WIAC Coach of the Year following the 2005-06 season, and coached 33 All-WIAC players, including one WIAC Player of the Year and a D3 Hoops Honorable Mention All-American candidate..
Darryl Watkins is entering his 1
st year at the helm for the Golden Eagles. Watkins spent five years as an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for the Golden Eagles under legendary Coach Misty Opat. In five years, he was an integral part of the 2013, 2015 and 2017 National Championship teams and the 2014 National Runner-Up. He was heavily involved in the program's recruiting, player development, strength and conditioning, and game preparation. RVC was an impressive 138-24 over those five seasons. A Rockford native, Watkins graduated from hometown Auburn High School in 2007, and from Rock Valley College with his AA in 2009. He has also received his bachelor's from Rockford University in Physical Education in 2012, as well as his master's in Sports Administration from Chadron State College (NE) in 2016.
