#5 RVC Women's Basketball Hosted Blackhawk College (Rockford, IL) and fell short losing 74-87. The Golden Eagles trailed early in the first quarter 19-18 in a back and forth battle. The braves would come out in the second quarter hot. Building a 13 point lead right before the half capped by a 13-2 run to end the half. "We didn't value possessions on either end of the floor in the final two minutes of the first half, just couldn't put together stops on the defensive end or find a way to put the ball in the bucket." Stated Watkins.
The Golden Eagles cold night of shooting would get a little better in the second half but wasn't enough to climb out of the hole they had built early in the game. RVC would chip away at the lead but could never get it under 7 points before ultimately never recovering in the game. The Golden Eagles fall to 7-2 this season.
"We didn't play our brand of basketball Thursday night, we couldn't muster up enough defensive stops, we lost the rebounding battle, didn't hit shots and turned the ball over too much," said Head Women's Basketball Coach
Darryl Watkins. "Blackhawk came in and played a solid game hitting us with their best punch, they came out aggressive and hit some key shots through-out the course of the game. This was a game we needed moving forward. Our schedule does not get any easier as we move forward. We hit the road on Saturday to play a tough undefeated Kankakee."
The Golden Eagles were led by freshman
Hannah Malcomson (23 points) and sophomores
Samantha Harris (18 points, 18 rebounds)
Alexcia Neal (11 points).
