#1 Rock Valley College Softball team began its quest for its fifth straight NJCAA Division III National Championship this past week with its annual spring trip. The Golden Eagles opened up its season in the N4C Dome Jamboree going 5-1 against N4C Conference opponents. They were defeated in Game 1 by Madison College (4-1) before rallying to win their next five games of the jamboree. They defeated Harper College (8-0 in 5 innings), Triton College (9-1 in 5 innings), Joliet Junior College (11-5), #10 NJCAA DIII College of DuPage (11-0 in 5 innings), and Milwaukee Area Technical College (15-0 in 5 innings).

From there, RVC headed south for the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. RVC went 13-0 on the week, including eight victories by run rule. RVC outscored its opponents 132-24 during the week long trip. It is the first time in Head Coach Darin Monroe's career that the Golden Eagles have went undefeated on their southern trip.

RVC started the season off strong on the offensive side. In 19 games, the Golden Eagles are averaging 9.8 runs per game, have a team batting average of .400 with 63 doubles, seven triples, and 30 home runs. Inside the circle, the RVC pitching staff has a 1.53 ERA in 110 innings pitched with 93 strikeouts.

"Coming back to Illinois 18-1 is a great start to our season, especially after losing the first game of the year," said Head Softball Coach Darin Monroe.  "We got an opportunity to see where we stand against some quality DII opponents. We need to improve on our situational hitting on the offensive side and not live and die so much by the home run ball. Defensively, we played solid all week, but need to find a way to not allow mistakes to turn into runs. We are happy where we have started, but it isn't how you start, but how you finish."

RVC Softball returns to the diamond in its home opener on Tuesday, March 20th with a double header against College of Lake County (IL).
