W-Basketball: Strong Defense Pushes RVC Past Columbus State CC

Box Score In front of a large crowd in The Nest, RVC Women's Basketball knocked off NJCAA DIII Columbus State Community College 78-61. The Golden Eagle defense held the visiting Cougars to 35.1% shooting from the field, and forced 40 turnovers.

"I was pleased with our defensive effort," said Misty Opat, Head Women's Basketball Coach. "There were stretches where things were not pretty, but I loved our effort. We still have a ways to go, and improvements to make, but today, we took a step in the right direction."

The Golden Eagles trailed by 1 point after the first quarter, but outscored Columbus State 27-16 in the second quarter to hold a 40-30 halftime advantage. The Golden Eagles held the Cougars to 8 points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Madi Hecox led RVC with 21 points on 7-12 shooting. Freshman Kalea Kruser played her best game thus far in a Golden Eagle uniform, tallying 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals. Emily Sorenson added 10 points.

The Golden Eagles (3-4) travel to the NIACC Holiday Tournament on November 24th-26th. They will play North Iowa Area Community College, Grand View University's JV program, and Iowa Western Community College.
