Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 #2 RVC went 2-0 over the weekend with a 61-54 win over NJCAA DII South Suburban College and a 82-41 win over N4C foe Harper College. The Golden Eagles move to 14-3 overall and 2-0 in N4C play.
South Suburban
Despite committing 20 turnovers, the Golden Eagles were able to rely upon three-point shooting to push themselves over the top. Rock Valley held a 35-22 advantage at the half, but the visiting Bulldogs would not go away, cutting the RVC lead to 8 (48-40) to enter the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagle defense did just enough to keep South Suburban at bay.
Jaycee Cleaver scored 20 points, including a blistering 6-8 from three-point range. Despite being plagued with foul trouble,
Tierra McGowan narrowly missed another double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
Emily Cox netted 12 points in the win.
"It certainly was not pretty," said Head Women's Basketball Coach
Misty Opat. "We defended and rebounded and that helped pushed us over the top. We played really well in the first quarter, and executed offensively. I think our depth was able to wear them down a little bit."
Harper
Behind 29 points and 14 rebounds from Chicago native
Tierra McGowan, RVC was able to control the game from start to finish to cruise to a 82-41 conference win. The Golden Eagles took a 37-19 advantage into halftime. Following the break, RVC kept their foot down, out-scoring the visiting Hawks 45-22 in the second half. The Golden Eagles out-rebounding Harper 52-22, and forced 22 Hawk turnovers. Chrissesha Clark (12), Cleaver (10), and
Anastasia Karaivanova (10) also reached double-figure scoring in the game.
"We came out aggressive on both sides of the ball," stated Opat. "When we attack both ways, a lot of good things happen for our program. We need to build on that moving forward as a very difficult part of our schedule comes up very soon."
