W-Basketball: #2 RVC Knocks Off Joliet
Box Score #2 RVC Women's Basketball stayed with their winning ways on Saturday afternoon with a 72-50 win over Joliet Junior College. The Golden Eagles improve to 21-3 overall, and move to a perfect 8-0 in N4C play.
The Golden Eagles jumped out on the visiting Wolves 19-7 after the first quarter, and held a 28-20 advantage going into halftime. It was the dominant third quarter performance, though, that dug a hole for Joliet that they could not recover from. RVC was firing on all cylinders, winning the third period 26-11. Once again, the RVC defense was responsible for a tough shooting performance for Joliet. The Wolves shot a frigid 17-66 from the field (25.8%) and 4-14 (28.6%) from beyond the arc. RVC ranks #2 amongst all Region IV opponents (26 teams across NJCAA DI, DII, and DIII) in field goal defense (31.3%).
"We defended the ball, and on the offensive end, we shared the ball," said Head Women's Basketball Coach
Misty Opat. "When you have 19 total assists and four players in double figures, you know you did a good job of being unselfish. It is a fun brand of basketball to watch, and I believe our ladies have fun playing that way. Additionally, we won the battle of the boards by 19. Handling our business in those areas typically equates to success for us."
Sophomore
Tierra McGowan led the Golden Eagles with 23 points on 10-15 shooting. She also hauled in 13 rebounds, which tied for a game-high. Chriseesha Clark added 15 points and 6 assists in the winning effort.
Emily Cox (11) and
Anastasia Karaivanova (10) rounded out the double figure scores. Karaivanova also had 13 rebounds.
