W-Basketball: Golden Eagles Finish 2016 with Win Over Elgin CC
Box Score #2 RVC Women's Basketball was too much for the visiting Elgin Community College Spartans. The Golden Eagles came away with a 63-37 victory. RVC improves to 11-3 overall.
The story of the afternoon was the Golden Eagle defense. RVC managed to hold Elgin to a frigid 12-44 FG and 4-15 from three point land. RVC also forced 27 Elgin turnovers. The Golden Eagles got control of the game early, leading 18-9 after the first quarter and 39-16 at halftime.
"I like the way we came out of the gates," said Head Women's Basketball Coach
Misty Opat. "We made a conscious effort to attack the basket in both the half court and in transition. I think our depth really hurt them a little bit too. Every player that saw the floor scored. At the end of the day, you have to defend and rebound (RVC out rebounded Elgin 47-33). If you can do those two things, you will be in a position to win."
RVC was led once again by sophomore
Tierra McGowan, who contributed 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Sydney Miller continued her strong play off the bench with 9 points.
Jaycee Cleaver added 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
