W-Basketball: In Rockford vs. Freeport battle RVC knocks off Highland for 2nd time this season
Box Score For the second time this season the Rock Valley College women's basketball team took down non-conference rival Highland Community College at home. RVC won by a score of 67-63.
This was the regular season finale for the Golden Eagles who finish 22-7 (10-2 N4C) heading into the post-season. The talented and well-coached NJCAA D1 Highland CC team falls to 19-9 overall. Highland is led by former RVC student-athlete Erin Butler and has a roster consisting of two former Rock Valley student-athletes.

The Golden Eagles were led once again by
Brianna Davis (Rockford, IL) with 21 points.
Creighton Fed (Carpentersville, IL) scored 20 points off the bench while
Asia Jones (Chicago, IL) posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Rebounding and defense, as it has all season, was the difference in this game as RVC held Highland to a chilly 32.8% from the field. Additionally, the Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Cougars 44-29.
"This was a great battle for both teams heading into the post-season," head coach
Misty Opat stated. "Erin does a great job with her kids and they came ready to play today. The crowd of over 500 was outstanding as we honored our hall of fame class. They helped us pull through."
The Golden Eagles start region tournament play next week. Â The projected #1 seed and N4C champions will earn a first round by and play in the semi-finals on Friday. Details will be provided at www.rvcsports.com as soon as the bracket is released.
